My educational journey began at the esteemed Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Kabul University, where I honed my skills and expertise in veterinary sciences. Subsequently, I embarked on a fulfilling career, serving in various roles across reputable organizations such as Aryan Reliance Group, Aga Khan Development Foundation, Omid Khaled Company, FAO, and Rah Abrisham Company. My work was not solely confined to veterinary medicine; for five years, I also served as a media officer and surveyor for an organization dedicated to defending minority rights in both elections and society. Throughout these experiences, I endured and survived targeted suicide attacks during various demonstrations, including the Rashnai movement and the night of Ashura in Ziyarat Sakhi, Kabul.

The tumultuous era of the Taliban's rule, both their first and second iterations, brought immense suffering and distress to my life. The first reign, from 1996 to 2001, witnessed the relentless oppression of ethnic and religious minorities, particularly my Hazara community. My father, an ardent advocate against the Taliban, paid a heavy price. Due to his political affiliations, our home was set ablaze, he was unjustly imprisoned, and our family's wealth was confiscated. This period of terror was marked by countless crimes against humanity, orchestrated by figures such as Mullah Mohammad Alam, Malangi, and Mullah Hakim. The trauma of those years haunts us to this day, with the brutalities we endured etched into our souls.

Now, due to my relationship with Western organizations and human rights defender activities that I have had in the community, the past problems of the Taliban with us and my father's activities with Western forces and institutions, my brother being in the national army as an officer, and my wife's social activities for the empowerment of underprivileged, vulnerable women and child nutrition program towards nutrition. These factors have led to increased threats against us from both the Taliban and extremist groups.

The echoes of danger reverberated anew when Taliban-affiliated armed men entered my office on August 9th in Bamian, threatening us with death. These very individuals, whose affiliations led to the confiscation of our property and my father's unjust imprisonment, now posed a fresh threat with greater strength and determination. The gravity of their intentions was palpable as they subjected our family to horrifying threats, including death and violence against our loved ones.

Days later, on August 10th, 2021, Shah Mahmoud Hajri, a radical Taliban-affiliated figure who had previously insulted and abused me during my human rights advocacy, warned me of severe punishment and death. Our confusion and desperation to escape to Kabul were met with closed exits and captured roads by security agencies. With mere hours before the Taliban reached Bamyan, we fled to the mountains, unsure of our fate. In the ensuing days, I learned that the Taliban had seized our property, wealth, and even our poultry company—stripping us of all we had achieved. The hunt for us intensified as the Taliban interrogated our relatives and neighbors in search of our whereabouts. A relative's warning not to descend from the mountains further underscored the perilous situation we faced.

In dire circumstances, my English friend's intervention spared us from a fate worse than death—her act of rescue kept us alive. I was relentlessly pursued by the Taliban across Afghanistan, seeking refuge in mountains, wells, and enduring weeks of hiding. More than 1.8 years have passed without contact with my remaining family members, heightening the fear that they may have met a tragic end at the hands of the Taliban.

Fleeing with my wife and son to Pakistan was our only option, a perilous journey supported by my English friend. As the challenges grew in our new refuge, we found ourselves ensnared in Pakistan's complex web of danger. The deep-rooted ties between the Taliban and Pakistan, coupled with the sponsorship of extremist groups, have forged an environment fraught with peril. The corrupt practices of the Pakistani police, targeting Afghan refugees, have deepened our uncertainty. The labyrinthine language barriers, coupled with an unforgiving job market and the refusal to acknowledge Afghan professionals, have compounded our struggles. This unending turmoil casts an ever-present shadow over our lives, aspirations, and well-being.

Within the confines of my own home, I am now a prisoner—forced to remain anonymous in order to elude the relentless pursuit of those who seek to harm me. The slow erosion of life's essence is exacerbated by the diminishing resources that the Taliban confiscated, leaving me and my young family teetering on the precipice of survival.

I implore you, the compassionate and dedicated members of Canadian Veterinary Organizations, to recognize the dire circumstances that afflict me and my family. As an ethnic and religious minority, our very existence is imperiled. The possible fate of my parents, likely victims of the Taliban's brutal rule, is a haunting reality. I urge you to understand that our plea for assistance is not just an appeal for survival; it is a plea to preserve the values of justice, humanity, and compassion.
